He has written about theatre since the late-1980s, contributing theatre reviews, interviews, arts features and travel articles to newspapers and magazines in Scotland and all over the world.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has published two books about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xtclimelight.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cult band XTC<\/a> as well as hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/whatdoyoucallthatnoise.transistor.fm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">podcast<\/a> about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is a theatre critic for&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/profile\/markfisher\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>, a former editor of&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.list.co.uk\/articles\/writer:mark-fisher\/\" target=\"_blank\">The List<\/a>&nbsp;magazine and a frequent contributor to magazines, newspapers and websites.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an editor, he has worked for the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eif.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edinburgh International Festival<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raploch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raploch Urban Regeneration Company<\/a>. the thick of live broadcast news production.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His digital film-making and video editing courses have been adopted by the National Union of Journalists as the gold standard in digital convergence, helping staff photographers, reporters, freelance journalists and public relations executives upskill and widen their options within the ever-changing print and broadcasting sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition Mike coaches filming, editing, television production and journalism for a range of clients including BBC Scotland and colleges and universities in Scotland and England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike\u2019s career includes reporting and subbing on newspapers, magazines and publishing. Her first two works of fiction were both nominated for literary prizes.&nbsp;\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Myra, Beyond Saddleworth,&nbsp;<\/em>published in 2012 by Wild Wolf Publishing, was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Four Marys<\/em>, published in 2014 by Saraband Books, a collection of four novellas on themes of motherhood and identity, was longlisted for the Jerwood Fiction Uncovered awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her third work of fiction,&nbsp;<em>Foul Deeds Will Rise<\/em>, about satanist ritual abuse, was&nbsp;published in June this year by&nbsp;independent publisher, Wild Wolf Publishing.&nbsp;\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is also the author of two non-fiction books and co-wrote the pamphlet&nbsp;<em>Freedom of Expression in the New Scotland<\/em>&nbsp;with Alan Bisset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She&nbsp;has twice been shortlisted in the UK Press Awards as feature writer of the year and has won awards for travel writing, medical journalism and comment.
